Richmond County's Great Outdoors:

Richmond County is a community of natural riches, with pristine forests, unspoiled rivers, and fertile farmland.
We’re proud of our two public game lands, the Sandhills and the Pee Dee River. The Sandhills has one of the nation’s foremost long leaf pine ecosystems. Both game lands are operated under the control of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and provide ample hunting, fishing, Horse trail-riding, hiking and exploring—usually in solitude! The Gamelands of Hoffman boast 60,000 acres of wildlife.  Saddle up and ride from the Longleaf Lodge,  formerly the Chadbourne Farm, onto miles and miles of sandy roads and paths through woods and around ponds.  Paddlers may try their hand at traversing a section of Hitchcock Creek Blue Trail, which runs right through the heart of Rockingham as it winds toward the Pee Dee River.
